Back to Emergency Exit

Which is the best panic device for me?

As with all aspects of panic furniture the situation dictates the equipment to be used.

The panic latch is used in most applications of a single door where emergency exit is required but maximum security is not. It is also easy to combine with the outside locking attachment to make the door accessible from both sides when the door is used as a thoroughfare. (Please note if you are using in a public building you must use a panic device that covers the width of the door).

The Panic bolt is for use in situations where the door is defined as only a panic exit and may be open to abuse from the outside. The bolts top and bottom give it more rigidity and a much securer solution. . (Please note if you are using in a public building you must use a panic device that covers the width of the door).

The combination unit for double doors is used when your double doors are rebated. (Please note that the panic bolt has to be put on the first opening leaf for the unit to work correctly). If your double doors have flush meeting stiles then you need to use two single panic bolts for the doors to operate correctly. (Please note if you are using in a public building you must use a panic device that covers the width of the door).

The panic push pad is used in occasions where a panic exit is required but space may be an issue. (This panic device can not be used in a building where members of the public are allowed who are not familiar with the buildings fire exits and routes.) It is more suited to small offices and exit routes that are only used by people who are familiar with the device.

External locking attachments are used in situations where access is required from the outside. More commonly used with panic latches they can also be used with panic bolts but with lesser effectiveness. These devices do have a clutch mechanism in them. In the case of an attack they are designed to break whilst still leaving the integrity of the panic device on the inside to be used in the case of an emergency.

The break tube exit device is only to be used on doors that will never be opened unless than in an emergency. (All people in the building where it is installed must be informed of its operations as soon as the device is installed because is not a one movement operation like the other panic devices). This panic device can not be used in a building where members of the public are allowed who are not familiar with the buildings fire exits and routes.
